Are your standards too high?

Dear Friend,

There is no doubt in my mind that you have high standards. You wouldn’t be where you are today or have achieved the extraordinary things you’ve accomplished if you didn’t. However, there is a point where your high standards actually prevent you from enjoying your life and reaching greater levels of success.

It’s a pattern I see with my high achiever clients all the time. They have really high standards for themselves, almost to the point of being a perfectionist. And, because of the high standards they’ve set for themselves, their expectations for others are quite low. They tolerate the mediocrity of others and end up taking on too much of the work load for fear of others not holding up their end of the bargain.

Is this something you can relate to? Do you often find yourself saying, ” If I want something done right, I have to do it myself?”

Do you sacrifice your personal health and well being by working harder, longer, and neglecting your own self-care in order to get everything done just right?

Do you accept less from others than you would accept from yourself?

This is toxic behavior. There is nothing heroic about taking it all on yourself. In fact, it’s the surest route to losing your drive and passion for life. You cannot fly high when you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. And, on the flip side, others won’t live up to their potential when you allow them to operate at less than their best.

By taking everything on yourself and expecting less from those around you, you end up not being able to live up to your own high standards.

This is not the path to making a powerful impact on the world and enjoying a great quality of life. This is a direct route to a high stress existence of just keeping your head above water.

It’s time to SET A NEW STANDARD!

…Not a standard that requires you to carry the load alone and hold yourself to impossible expectations. It’s time to set a standard where you inspire others to rise to their own high standard. It’s time to set a standard that engages others in your big vision.

You see, when you set a standard that engages and empowers others you begin to plug up all that’s been draining your energy and focus. Your passion for life is renewed and you begin to experience higher levels of personal well-being.

My challenge to you this week:
Stop trying to be a superhero. Let others step up and excel along with you.

Until the next time we meet – I’m wishing you lots of passion, purose, and profits!
