It’s Not Over Yet…You Can Still FINISH STRONG!

finish strong

We’re in the final stretch.  2016 is coming to a rapid close.  At least 10 times in the past two days, I’ve heard people say “I can’t believe it’s already October…Where has this year gone?”

Are you where you want to be?

As we look forward to the final 90 days of 206,  many people have stopped thinking about the goals they had for this year and they have already pushed them to next year’s calendar.

That’s a horrible approach.  Here’s why…

Momentum will be lost.  Even with all the expectation the new year brings, it will take much more energy and effort to start on your goals in January.

But, if you start now – even taking small baby steps – you’ll have tremendous momentum that can make 2017 your best year ever.

A Point To Ponder

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Bad News About Affirmations

As you go through life, you’re constantly affirming your own thoughts and beliefs. Throughout each day, you consciously and unconsciously tell yourself things based on your belief system.

The problem is, much of the time you may actually be re-affirming negative thoughts rather than positive ones. This is bad news. After all, if your affirmations are negative, you can expect only negative outcomes!

How many times in a day do you tell yourself how stupid you are for forgetting something or how fat you are when your favorite jeans feel tight?

Negative thinking reinforces an internal belief that we’ll never be able to change ourselves and that we’re destined to continue repeating our self-destructive behaviors. When we re-affirm our negative thoughts, we enter into a vicious cycle that leads to even more negative thinking.

Imagine how different your life would be if you began using affirmations to reinforce the positive!

Affirmations work wonders if you use them properly. By making a few simple adjustments in the way you phrase your inner dialog, you can begin using this powerful technique to change your thinking and change your life.

Your subconscious mind accepts things on a very literal basis, so for affirmations to work effectively, you need to follow a simple formula.

Follow these tips to create positive affirmations that can change your life for the better:

  1. Your subconscious needs to know you’re doing something now, not in the future. For example, if you state an affirmation as something you want to change, such as “I will quit smoking,” your subconscious cannot distinguish what you mean by “I will.”

It has no sense of planning for the future. In fact, your subconscious mind will accept what you tell it, even if the behavior has not yet happened, that’s why you should state your affirmation as if it’s already a fact.

“I am free from the desire to smoke” is an effective affirmation and will begin to program your subconscious mind into thinking as a non-smoker, even before you put down the cigarettes.

  1. An affirmation must be personal for your subconscious to accept it. Saying, “You need to eat healthy” won’t help you change your diet. When your subconscious hears the word “you,” it doesn’t interpret it as a statement directed at yourself. Instead, phrase your affirmation in the first person. Stick to “I” in your affirmations and you’ll soon notice a strong positive effect on your behaviors.

“I enjoy eating healthy foods” is a positive, first person affirmation that will help you begin making better choices when you reach for a meal or snack.

  1. Your subconscious mind is very literal. It can’t process the concept of “not.” The statement, “I am not going to lie on the couch watching TV when I should be exercising” won’t do anything other than re-affirm how you should lay on the couch in front of the television. Form your intention in a positive way, even if you haven’t made the behavior change yet.

“I enjoy exercisiwithout discipline ng in my spare time” is more likely to motivate you to get up and go to the gym, instead of reaching for the remote control and a bag of chips.

Positive, personal, present tense affirmations are extremely powerful in changing how your subconscious affects your behavior.

Make an effort to stop reinforcing your old, negative thinking that keeps you caught in a rut. Try using these three simple techniques today to create affirmations that can change your subconscious programming, your actions, and your life for the better.

Put Your Affirmations to Work

Here’s the truth – Affirmations don’t work unless you do. I love how Jim Rohn said it, “Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion.”  You cant’t just think positively., you must ACT positively, too.  No matter how positive or powerful your affirmations are, it is the action you put behind them that will make your dreams a reality.

Master a Mighty Money Mindset

What’s stopping you from making big money and a big difference?

That’s the question I asked myself as I looked at my business checking account and saw a balance of $3.11. For the past two years, I’d worked 14 hours days pouring myself into serving Christian women entrepreneurs.  Yet, all I had to show for it was $3.11?!!!

I was hurt, frustrated, and I have to say it…pissed off!

Now don’t get me wrong – Fulfilling my divine assignment to help Christian women discover, maximize, and prosper in their purpose is pretty awesome. But,  it is pretty hard to remain excited about fulfilling your purpose when you can’t even buy a cup of hot chocolate at Starbucks, let alone pay your cell phone bill.

It was one of the lowest times in my business and life. I thought I only had two choices:  continue in my purpose-driven business or pay my bills.  After a lot of prayer, I was led to a new choice – continue in my purpose-driven business and pay my bills.  I spent the next six months becoming very strategic about the way I grew my business.  What I’ve learned in the process has helped me turn it all around.  In fact, in the first 3 months of 2016, I made more than I’d made in more than 18 months combined.  My experiences have not only boosted the results of my business but those of my clients as well.

But, here’s the thing –  it all started with a mindset makeover.

Do You Have An Unhealthy Money Mindset?

You have a relationship with money. Every entrepreneur does, but not everyone has a healthy relationship with money. Your money relationship is not determined by how many dollars you have in your bank account or what your client list looks like. Your relationship with money is about how you view money and how you use it to improve your business and your life.

So, how do you know if your money relationship is a good one or a bad one? Here are some signs that your money relationship could use some improvement.

Frequent Feelings of Jealousy and Bitterness

You go to the mall and see another customer buying the beautiful dress you wanted.  You feel a pang of disappointment then jealousy. You see your friend taking her kids to Disney World for summer vacation while your family is struggling just to keep food on the table. You feel angry and bitter whenever you think about it.

These feelings are understandable. It’s frustrating to struggle with money when it seems like everyone else has it so good. Acknowledge these feelings when you encounter them but don’t focus on your feelings. Negative feelings hurt you in the long-run and make it harder for you to improve your own money situation because you’re so busy keeping score.

Hoarding What You Do Have

When they hear the word ‘hoarding’, most people think of houses filled to the brim with useless items. But some types of hoarding are less obvious than that. It might be that you’re holding onto a closet full of old clothes because you’re afraid you might need them at some point. It could be that you keep things—even broken things—because you think you’ll find a use for them some day.

This type of hoarding doesn’t interfere with your daily life, but it does affect your relationship with money. You’re subconsciously sending yourself the message that you don’t have enough and you never will. Instead of living in beautiful abundance and trusting that you’ll have enough to meet your needs as they come, you’re closely guarding your things.

Refusing to Invest in Yourself

Often, solopreneurs and small business owners reach a plateau. A plateau is the point where you can go no further in your business or in your life, unless you invest in yourself first. An example of this in your personal life would be losing ninety pounds and having twenty left to lose. You want to lose the final twenty but you’ve plateaued. You’ve reached a point where you can’t go any further on your own.

This type of plateau can occur in your business, too. It might be that you’re a motivational speaker but you’re only getting booked for small events. You want to speak to bigger crowds in larger venues. You could continue to struggle for a few years or you could invest in yourself. Hire a coach to help you grow your speaking business. Book a session with a speaking consultant to ask for advice.

The first step to changing your financial outlook is to acknowledge that you’re not happy where you are. Once you do this, financial doors will begin to open for you and you’ll discover a better relationship with money.
