We Lost One Of The Great Ones

Wednesday, November 28th was a sad day in the world of personal and professional development.  Zig Ziglar, one of the greatest motivational heroes of all times passed away at the age of 86.

He was truly an inspirational giant.

Each time he’d deliver a speech, hearts would be touched. His words changed lives. He  inspired countless people to continue on through their struggles. And, he empowered many more with the “check up from the neck up” that he so often advised.

That certainly was the case for me.

At a time when I was seriously considering giving up my coaching business and return to practicing law, Zig gave me the wake up all I needed.

During a lunch time walk to clear my head, I listened to a recording of one Zig’s speeches. About halfway through, his words caused me to stop in my tracks. A light bulb came on in my head.

The Zig Ziglar quote that changed my business and life was –

“You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”

“Prepare to win” rang in my ears over and over and over again.

Wanting to win was not enough.   Having the right knowledge and skills were not enough.  Even serving the right purpose with passion was not enough.

I needed a plan.   I had to prepare to win.

From that day, the accidental living was gone. I began to operate my business with purpose on purpose. And, that has made all the difference.

It’s likely that you have been influenced directly by the great Zig Ziglar. Did his stories reach you at just the right time? Did he help you turn your life around? What’s your favorite Zig quote, story, or memory?
